These could be a good buy:

1953 653 Tommy Armour woods w/stiff shafts. Could make a good project for Mike to ABS.

I have the 1 wood. It's a MacGregor 653T. Love the club when I hit it well.

I believe the only difference between a 653 and 653T is the T had a cord grip. I'm not sure the difference between a 653 and 693 other than sometimes the color was black for the 653. Maybe the wood was slightly inferior to what they used in the 693.

The difference is the 653T usually had a blemish in the wood grain. Mine has a dark brown knot on the crown. Apparently back in the day, the 653T was a very reputable driver, just behind the 693.

You guys missed the interesting thing about these Armours. They have a reverse soleplate typical of the Byron Nelson models and this is probably a rare set. The necks look good so they are great candidates for a full ABS. Happy bidding.
